'Moonrise Kingdom': Wes Anderson's New Film Reveals Plot

Wes Anderson is returning to real life -- but traveling back in time -- for his next major film.

The "Rushmore" and "Royal Tenenbaums" filmmaker, who last put out the stop motion animated "Fantastic Mr. Fox," will co-write and direct the 1960s-set "Moonrise Kingdom," the Playlist reports. He's already announced a stellar cast for the project, with Bill Murray, Jason Schwartzman, Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Frances McDormand and Tilda Swinton set to star.

The story centers on a pair of 12-year olds (newcomers Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward) who fall in love and run away from their New England island town. That prompts a major search, led by the Sheriff (Willis) and the girl's parents (Murray, McDormand).

Just picked up by Focus Features, the film marks Anderson's first effort with Willis, Norton, McDormand and Swinton. Schwartzman and Murray starred in his second film, 1998's "Rushmore," while Murray featured and starred in "The Royal Tenenbaums" and "The Life Aquatic," respectively. Schwartzman was one of three leads, along with Adrien Brody and Owen Wilson, in Anderson's last live action film, "The Darjeeling Limited."

Film Finalizes Cast With Newcomers Jared Gilman & Kara Hayward

Hard to believe, but it’s been nearly four years since we’ve seen a live-action Wes Anderson film (though his stop-motion adaptation of “Fantastic Mr. Fox” did help fill the void). Well, fans of the director shouldn’t have to wait too much longer because filming has already begun on his next project, “Moonrise Kingdom,” in Rhode Island. Set in the ‘60s on an island off the coast of New England, the film assembles perhaps his most impressive cast to date (or at least since “The Royal Tenenbaums”), including Anderson first-timers Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Frances McDormand and Tilda Swinton as well as Anderson regulars Bill Murray and Jason Schwartzman. Also confirmed are the 12-year-old boy and girl at the center of the film, newcomers Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward. The script is penned by Anderson himself and “The Darjeeling Limited” co-writer Roman Coppola, and will be Anderson’s first period piece.

And to top off this good news, Focus Features has picked up the international distribution rights for the film (just in time to sell the foreign rights at Cannes). This will be the first film of Anderson’s to be distributed by Focus. His first feature, “Bottle Rocket,” was distributed by Columbia, with “Rushmore,” ‘Tenenbaums’ and “The Life Aquatic” all at Touchstone/Disney, and his most recent efforts ‘Darjeeling’ and ‘Fox’ released by Fox Searchlight. The picture will be his third film produced by Indian Paintbrush, who also produced and co-financed his last two efforts, and fifth collaboration with producer Scott Rudin, who has helped out on everything since ‘Tenenbaums.’ While we haven’t loved every one of Anderson’s recent efforts, it seems like he’s trying to shake things up a bit with his new film and that’s definitely something we’re excited about. Set on an island off the coast of New England in the 1960s, Moonrise Kingdom follows a young boy and girl falling in love. When they are moved to run away together, various factions of the town mobilize to search for them and the town is turned upside down – which might not be such a bad thing. Bruce Willis plays the town sheriff; two-time Academy Award nominee Edward Norton is cast as a camp leader; Academy Award nominee Bill Murray and Academy Award winner Frances McDormand portray the young girl’s parents; the cast also includes Academy Award winner Tilda Swinton and Jason Schwartzman. The young boy and girl are played by Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward.

Owen Wilson was coy about his involvement with the film a few months back and while there’s still no confirmation here, we wouldn’t be surprised to see him pop up in a small role. Also released recently is a call for background actors in Rhode Island that includes 12-14 year old boys with sailing/canoeing experience, knowledge of Morse code and a pair of “salty fisherman” aged 70 years or older. With this sudden flood of information, fans of the director should practically be able to start building the film in their heads.

“Moonrise Kingdom” is now filming for a probable 2012 release.

Bruce Willis Says Die Hard 5 Is Imminent

John McClane has stopped terrorists at Nakatomi Plaza, foiled a plot at Dulles Airport, halted an enormous gold heist in New York City and made certain a cyber geek didn’t cripple Western civilization as we know it. There nothing left for the guy to accomplish right? Bruce Willis doesn’t think so. In an ultra-awkward interview with MTV Willis claims the next installment to the Die Hard franchise is “imminent.”

In the interview, Willis doesn’t speculate on whether Live Free’s Len Wiseman will also direct the next chapter in the McClane-terrorist fighting turnstile, but it appears the movie is happening one way or another. This leads me to wonder what evil is left for McClane to combat. He’s conquered almost every kind of bad guy and farfetched plot imaginable. That’s not to say it shouldn’t happen. If Live Free proved anything, it’s that big time, ridiculous action movies are still in Willis’s wheelhouse. Another Die Hard movie would be welcomed with open arms. The last one was a box office and critical success by almost any metric.

Willis is currently filming Catch .44 with Forest Whitaker and Nikki Reed. He’ll also be seen alongside Jamie Foxx next year in Kane and Lynch.

Talk about post-Oscar buzz.

Coming off of his shocking Oscar win for his screenplay for last year’s hit film, PRECIOUS, scribe Geoffrey Fletcher has not only found a film to get behind for a directorial debut, but one hell of a cast to join him on his first outing.

According to The Playlist, the film, VIOLET AND DAISY, not only stars Carey Mulligan and Saoirse Ronan, but that the film has found the interest of such thespians as Bruce Willis and even one Danny Trejo. The film has been compared to the likes of THELMA & LOUISE and even SUPERBAD, and has apparently gotten quite a load of attention from actors and studios alike.
The writer will also be helping director Doug Liman on his upcoming prison riot film, ATTICA, but it looks as though VIOLET will be getting in front of lenses prior to that hotly anticipated true to life story.

That said, while I dig both Mulligan and Ronan, I really don’t have much interest in seeing what Bruce Willis has up his sleeve, particularly after his recent run of films. However, Trejo is always fun, but at this point, this is a wait and see, for sure.

Hollywoodnews.com: Even though Rian Johnson has only two pictures under his belt, the director boasts a loyal fan base. That’s because his first two pictures were that good.

If forced to choose, I’d prefer Johnson’s modern take on the hardboiled film noir genre, “Brick,” with Joseph Gordon-Levitt as a high-schooler trying to locate his missing ex-girlfriend. But that doesn’t mean I like Johnson’s quirky comedy “The Brothers Bloom” any less. Rachel Weisz is especially winning as a reclusive millionaire who is pulled into con artists’ Mark Ruffalo and Adrien Brody’s scheme – and loves every minute of it.

Needless to say, Johnson’s a director worth paying attention to, so we’re excited that his next project, “Looper,” is underway.

Production Weekly tweets that “Looper” will film in New Orleans from Jan. 24 to April 1.

The IMDB summary says that the film will be set in a near future, where a group of killers – known as Loopers — work for a crime syndicate. Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis are on board, and the screenplay reportedly involves loopy time travel. We are more than intrigued.

No idea of a release date, but we’ll bring you updates as we get them.

UNBREAKABLE 2 The Final Film Of The Night Chronicles?

Though it won't be released as Unbreakable 2 as those rights are held elsewhere, M Night Shyamalan has told MTV that he is using the idea originally intended for the sequel to his Bruce Willis / Samuel L Jackson superhero story as the third entry in his Night Chronicles series of films - films he provides the stories for and produces while handing directing duties off to others.

The first of the Night Chronicles - Devil - is being handled by Quarantine's Dowdle Brothers, word is they're in hot pursuit of The Last Exorcism director Daniel Stamm to handle the second Chronicle - Twelve Strangers - and there is no word yet who will handle this.

Here's an excerpt of Shyamalan's statement:

"I cannibalized the idea for the sequel to 'Unbreakable' for one of the 'Night Chronicles ... It was such a cool idea for a villain, and it was actually originally in the script for 'Unbreakable,' and it was too much ...There were too many villains, so I pulled this villain out and was like, 'I'll make this the second flick.'"

As one of those who was very much hoping for an Unbreakable sequel I'm quite curious to see how this turns out and I'm pleased to see that it focuses on a villain as the hero genre is becoming rather played out. Plus, while he's become an object of mockery now, Unbreakable is arguably the best work from Shyamalan in a period when he was producing generally stellar stuff and I'd love to see a return to that form from him.

Bruce Willis And Sigourney Weaver See The Cold Light Of Day

“Die Hard” veteran, Bruce Willis and “Avatar” actress, Sigourney Weaver, have both signed for “JCVD” director, Mabrouk El Mechri’s latest project, The Cold Light of Day, according to the trades.

Both actors are set to star alongside Henry Cavill in the kidnapping thriller, which sees a Wall Street Trader’s life turned upside down when his family are kidnapped on a holiday in Spain. Desperate to save his family, the cocky Wall Street type finds himself thrust into a government conspiracy and fights to uncover the secrets of his father his order to save those he loves.

Willis has been cast to play the role of the mysterious Father; Weaver is cast as the villain in the kidnapping thriller from Intrepid Pictures and Summit.

The script for ‘Cold Light’ was penned by Scott Wiper and John Petro and is currently receiving a little studio polish from Richard Price. Steven Zaillian, Kevin Mann, Matthew Perniciaro and Wiper are executive producing the picture, with Spanish producer Galavis Film co-producing. The film is set to begin shooting on 6th September in Spain.

M. Night Shyamalan Setting Up New Film With Willis, Paltrow and Cooper

Briefly: M. Night Shyamalan’s The Last Airbender opens soon, and advance of that opening he’s apparently trying to set up financing for a new script that he’s penned. Details are thin right now, but he reportedly has some notable talent attached: his The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable star Bruce Willis, plus Gwyneth Paltrow and Bradley Cooper.

THR reports that Shyamalan is shopping the script, and keeping it shrouded in as much secrecy as possible. At this point we don’t know a title, subject or logline. The story is that only a few studio execs have read the script, and that they’ve done so under the supervision of Shyamalan’s assistant. No word on a sale, or where this would fit into projected Airbender sequels. Does it say anything about Airbender that Paramount didn’t just grab this one before it could go out to other studios, or did Shyamalan want to take the new script elsewhere?

New Movie Rumor. One called Looper

I’ll get this out of the way right now: awesome. Bruce Willis can do great work when he’s paired with a strong, determined director. I figure Rian Johnson will be pretty determined when he gets on the set of Looper, his third feature. So I’m happy to see a report that not only seems to confirm the casting of Joseph Gordon-Levitt, but announces Willis has a role as well.

Looper being a time travel movie, however, the details of who Willis plays could probably be considered some sort of spoiler. I imagine in the months (perhaps days) to come the info will be all over the internet, and perhaps eventually in the trailer. But if you want to remain as unsullied as possible, for the time being don’t follow up after the jump.
Deadline provides an interesting detail, which is that Willis will play the older version of Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s character. The exact nature of their shared character has yet to be revealed, but there’s fun to be had speculating on it for the time being, based on the synopsis we were recently given:
Looper is a time travel movie, set in a near future where time travel doesn’t exist but will be invented in a few decades. It’s pretty dark in tone, much different from Bloom, and involves a group of killers (called Loopers) who work for a crime syndicate in the future. Their bosses send their targets hogtied and blindfolded back in time to the Loopers, and their job is to simply shoot them in the head and dispose of the body. So the target vanishes from the future and the Loopers dispose of a corpse that doesn’t technically exist, a very clean system. Complications set in from there.

So what’s the story? Is their character a victim who gets away and then makes it forward into the future, leading to two versions inhabiting the same time/space? That’s one possibility, but for the time being I don’t even really want to know. I just like the casting. (Even though Willis, OK, not the first guy I’d pick to be the older JGL, but perhaps there’s more to it than that. And I dig Willis; with Johnson, he’ll make it work.)

I know you’ve all penned this day in your calendars, I know I’ve been waiting for this day a long time: Today, LR Health & Beauty Systems is debuting squinty tough guy Bruce Willis‘ “signature collection,” which he created in partnership with the German beauty company.

“I personally feel that the new Bruce Willis fragrance is the manliest scent in the world,” said Tilo Plöger, chief operating officer of LR Health & Beauty Systems. The Willis scent reportedly contains notes of grapefruit, pepper, and vetiver.

First announced in April, the collection includes hair and body wash, deodorant, aftershave balm, and eau de parfum–which clocks in at ~15% aromatic compounds compared to eau de cologne’s ~5%–since naturally, badasses need to smell strongly of badasses.

According to United Networker, Bruce Willis told reporters at the press conference in Frankfurt “with great enthusiasm” that “the development of my new fragrance together with the very committed and passionate LR team was really a lot of fun. The products stand for individuality, uniqueness and sustainability. That’s what convinced me, and what unites me with LR.”

The design of the perfume bottle, in the classy yet intrepid, indomitable, macho, rugged style expected of Willis, incorporates a huge metal badge which adorns “the exceptionally high-quality glass flacon,” which apparently is “heavy in the hand,” because John McClane would never use lightweight perfume bottles, damn it! And of course, the packaging mimics “brushed aluminium and embossed riveting.”

Finally, the product tagline is the stuff of Don Draper: “Smart Guys Live Forever.”

We’ve seen a lot of buddy movies and cop type films before – some generic in their approach. What did you find so interesting that you wanted to inhabit this character?
You can ask (director) Kevin (Smith) this, but I don’t think we ever really thought of it as, ‘OK we are making a cop buddy movie’. I know all the films you mean, but I never felt like we were making that kind of film. Our job was to just make you laugh and it started there, and ended way over there, but I mean, there’s a story in there. But ... we were just trying to make people laugh. And trying as hard as we could to come up with funny stuff.

Did you think your own persona affected the script?
It beyond affected it. Had we not had a first great shooting day, which was never really presented to us as, ‘this is a test and let’s see how you guys get along; if you can interact and be funny with one another’. No-one ever said that.

How much improv did you guys put on the screen?
I think it had some form of improv in it, sometimes we’d stay with it, sometimes we just went back to the script.

This movie is like a showcase of what you think is funny?
That’s a good way of putting it. It’s a showcase of what I think five or six people think is funny. Obviously you can’t get everything into a 90 minute film, but it’s not about anything else except the comedy.

It’s a very youthful humour.
Yeah, we weren’t going to leave those youthful jokes out.

Is it fair to say that today you laugh about the same things that you did when you were a 12-year-old boy?
I think the 12-year-old boys (or girls) are our audience. (But) there are so many boring movies out there, more slow movies, or really serious movies and so few films come along that are just trying to make you laugh – just trying to crack you up.

Humour comes out of jealously, especially towards your wife, (in the movie) or just in general. How do you relate to jealousy? Are you a jealous person?
I think I’ve set jealousy aside. There’s very little in the story that had to do my jealousy of a new husband who is with my ex-wife, but it’s a small part of the story. And those are just those signposts that keep the movie going along – to keep the film moving along, until we can get to some of the real big laughs again.

You’ve reached a level of professionalism where you don’t really have a lot to prove that maybe younger actors, in their 20s would. Has jealousy been professional or personal, or as you get older does it kind of dissipate?
It has for me. I think the longer you stay working in this industry, everybody finds their own little niche and you can build your own little kingdom, your own little world. You get to do these kind of films, but sometimes you get asked to do other kind of films, and some people never make the cut, some people fall off, but I don’t see a lot of people really being jealous.

I read where you said this is the happiest time in your life. Is that a result of just getting older?
Just because it is the happiest time in my life. It really is. I’ve never been happier than I am right now.

Is there any specific reason why now is a great time for you?
Yes, I got remarried again last year and she’s really a wonderful woman. That makes me happy all the time.

You’re going to get to a point soon where your daughters are going to get married?
I have a little time. They have good heads on their shoulders, but the time will come and when it happens it happens. It’s just a rite of passage.

Are you saving a nest egg?
Weddings today are $45,000. I’m broke, man. I was actually going to see if I could borrow some money from you guys ... the good thing is, the mother pays for the wedding.

With all the romance you have in that movie you would think all you need is a good buddy?
Well, you always do need a good wingman. Everybody needs that, every guy needs that.

Is the movie a good representation of how you deal with your friends?
Is it all laughter and having fun? I think my default mode is to just try to make you laugh, to say the stupidest thing to make you laugh. Everybody likes to laugh. It makes you feel good and it makes you healthier.

Are you surprised when a scene you’ve rehearsed isn’t funny but when it’s improvised or just happens, it gets the best laughs?
It happened a few times in this movie. Seann William Scott’s part was really funny on the page, but he took it to outer space, I mean he is so funny, he elevated it, and took risks that really paid off. They were really so funny, that you’d just go, ‘I can’t believe he just said that’, it’s so crazy. So yeah, he’s terrific.

How do you see the evolution of the police figure in movies? You’ve really played the extremes as in Die Hard.
Do you think that in the 80s it needed to be all action – the audiences expected that.

How have you seen that type of character?
Well, I’m sick of it, I’m sick of playing cops, that’s why I wanted to do a film that was just about funny cops. Cause there’s only so many times you can run down the road with two guns in your hand, screaming and take it seriously. But these films cop action or cop action buddy comedies have been around since they’ve been making films. They used to call them westerns, then they called them Second World War pictures, then it was gangster pictures, then they called them Vietnam pictures, or cop pictures after The French Connection. It’s always about a couple of guys that stand between the good guys and the bad guys. This is a variation on it that is, everything in the film is really secondary to trying to make you laugh. So it’s a version of it I guess.

Are people surprised that because of your tough guy persona you do have a good sense of humour?
Only people who forget that I worked on TV for five years. And I was funny everyday, that was my job. But people have short memories. I was funny one time in Sixth Sense too and then there was that one time in Die Hard when I made someone laugh.

I know, but I’m just asking about the general perception. Are people surprised?
No, they just say congratulations.

Bruce, what kind of actors make you laugh?
There are actors that can, just out of nowhere. You can be having a conversation and all of a sudden they just say something out of the blue, completely out of left field, that is so off topic and so not what we were talking about, that it cracks you up.

Can you name anybody?
Yeah, Tracy Morgan.

How is your music career, any upcoming performances?
No, I’m retired.

Why?
Too busy being happy.

You can’t be happy while also playing music?
I play a little. I sit in with the Allman Brothers Band once in awhile, but I’m not playing nearly as much as I used to.

Are you still enjoying acting?
Yeah, I think so. I still enjoy it sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less, but I still like trying to make something from 110 typewritten pages of words and try and be funny. In this case the funny ideas weren’t always in the script, but sometimes things get away from you, it’s tricky finding what the hook is.

Do you know when something is not working?
Yeah, I guess. If you catch something take a little left turn and come back to what the scene is supposed to be you feel like you’ve done your job.

Bruce Willis doing another great character. I think Bruce Willis has an excellent sense of humor. I am positive this is going to be an excellent movie since for one, it has Bruce Willis in it. Two, it combines Cops, and Funny. Bruce willis is excellent at playing both. He built his reputation playing a cop, he built his following with his sense of humor. Just gotta love it you get both for the price of one.

'Cop Out' Cast Say Working With Bruce Willis Is 'Awesome'

As if anyone needs confirmation that working with Hollywood legend Bruce Willis is awesome, his "Cop Out" co-stars are spreading the word. And having the chance to work with him on the Kevin Smith-directed flick, which opens this weekend, was a dream come true.

"It was awesome. I don't have the words," Tracy Morgan, who co-stars as Willis' partner, Paul Hodges, in the flick, told MTV News on the red carpet at the New York City premiere. "I mean, can you imagine? This is Bruce Willis. Just getting the opportunity to work with him ... I would have done one scene with him, let alone I got to do a whole movie with Bruce Willis. 'Die Hard' franchise and all that stuff. I'm just overjoyed."

Adam Brody, who also plays a police officer in the comedy, said he's always wanted to be in a cop movie. "Yeah, actually, I did [want to be a cop when I was a kid]. I don't think I'm a violent person, but guns always seemed like a cool prop," he explained. But would he want to be arrested by Willis and Morgan? "No! I'd be intimidated [by them] because Bruce is a heavy and then who knows what Tracy's gonna do."

Michelle Trachtenberg, who plays Willis' daughter in the cop comedy, loved having the chance to improvise with the icon. "I've known Kevin [Smith] for years. He's so awesome and extraordinary. He let me, Bruce and I, improv a bunch of our stuff, and it was a lot of fun," the "Gossip Girl" star said. "Bruce is great. It was fun playing his daughter 'cause I know his daughters, so it was an interesting mix."

The 54-year-old action star told MTV News that he is leaving time open on his schedule to shoot a cameo for the action adventure movie.

About his cameo, he confessed that he will be seen sharing screen with Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger. "That's the concept," he said with a grin. "That's the plan." Though so, the former husband of actress Demi Moore revealed that he has yet shot the scene. "Not yet, I haven't united with them," he said. "I'm waiting for a call from Sly about when we're going to try and make that happen."

When pursued on what character he will be portraying, the leading man of "Surrogates" fessed up that he has no idea about it just yet. "I don't know anything about [my character] yet, haven't seen any pages yet," he explained. Still, he added, "But I'm excited about it."

"The Expendables" centers its story on a team of mercenaries who heads to South America on a mission to overthrow a dictator, who has caused devastation in the last 20 years. Steve Austin, Dolph Lundgren, Brittany Murphy and Charisma Carpenter are among the star-studded cast ensemble.

The film has been shot in locations, such as Brazil, New Orleans and Los Angeles starting on March 28. April 23, 2010 has been set to be the theatrical release date of this Lionsgate movie in North America. Earlier, some footage from the film have been made available to view.

In "Inventory," Willis, who is in negotiations for the role, would play a detective on the trail of a murderer. In "Red," Willis would portray a former black-ops agent who has gone into retirement but is forced back into action when a high-tech assassin threatens him and his girlfriend. Erich and Jon Hoeber are writing the screenplay, which is based on the WildStorm/DC Comic. In "Scarpa" Willis will play the title character Greg Scarpa, an FBI informant who worked deeply undercover in New York's Columbo family. Bruce Willis to be honored at Sonoma International Film Festival
Staff Report

Kevin McNeely, chairman of the Sonoma International Film Society, announced today that actor and musician Bruce Willis, star of “12 Monkeys,” the “Die Hard” series, “The Fifth Element,” “The Sixth Sense” and the forthcoming “What Just Happened?” among other films, will be honored at the Sonoma International Film Festival (formerly the Sonoma Valley Film Festival) next spring.

The actor and occasional bluesman (he plays harmonica in a band) will be presented with the society’s “Lifetime Achievement Award” at the festival, which enters its twelfth year bringing films to the Valley, from April 1 to 5, 2009.

“My schedule is a little hectic these days,” said Willis, who is currently directing his first feature film in Louisiana. “But by hook or by crook, I will be in Sonoma for your festival in April. I am honored to receive this award.”

Willis’ cinematic work will be showcased as part of the festival’s tribute program, which will include a party as well as a ceremony.

Warner Bros. has snapped up "The Days Before," a sci-fi action spec by tyro scribe Chad St. John, and set up the project with Gianni Nunnari ("300") at his Hollywood Gang shingle.
Story centers on aliens invading Earth by traveling backwards through time and wiping out humanity -- yesterday by yesterday -- while one man stays a yesterday ahead of them, trying to convince the world that the end is coming again.

Craig Flores of Hollywood Gang will exec produce.

Nunnari's teamed with "300" partner Mark Canton of Canton Prods. on Greek mythology epic "War of the Gods," with Relativity's Ryan Kavanaugh producing and financing. Hollywood Gang and financier Endgame Entertainment recently joined to produce Sergei Bodrov's period epic "The Silk Road: The Adventures of Marco Polo."

St. John has previously penned "The Further Adventures of Doc Holiday" for Bruce Willis.

Say what you will about the guy, but nobody, nobody, is better at playing Bruce Willis than Bruce Willis. As a portly, bearded, tantrum-throwing, chair-tossing version of the movie star "Bruce Willis," "Die Hard" dude all but walks off with "What Just Happened?" Watch Willis blow his fuse in front of the producer of his new picture (Robert DeNiro), and you'd swear you can see the Oscar-winning tough guy not just flinch at the mock violence. Bobby D's giggling behind those eyes.

Movies about Hollywood are as common as Jolie babies, and there have been broader, funnier, meaner takes on the business than this one. But this Barry Levinson version of real-life producer Art Linson's memoir is more movie-savvy than any of them. Linson, who produced "Fight Club," "Into the Wild" and scads of other films, finally shows us what a "real" producer actually does.

Ben (DeNiro) has a Sean Penn drama in previews, going through test screenings. It's not going well. He begs the director to cut it.

"Where can I kiss you? Where? Name the location!"

He has another picture about to start filming. But his star, the man whose presence ensures that the film will be financed and filmed, has "a Grizzly Adams beard. And he's a pig." They're talking about Bruce Willis. He doesn't shave, no movie.

A screenwriter (Stanley Tucci) is determined to make this film about a florist.

"It's the Rose Bowl Parade meets 'The Da Vinci Code!' "

And an agent known and hated by all has just killed himself. Think of this as "Three Movies and a Funeral."

Add to that stress the weight of Ben's home life - as in, he has none. He's got two ex-wives, including one he's still in love with, a trophy bride (Robin Wright Penn) who tired of his "work first" lifestyle and the ever-ringing phone.

"What Just Happened?" follows Ben through two weeks of his life, bending over backward at every turn, stroking his mad Brit director (Michael Wincott, a stitch), nagging Bruce's ulcerous agent (John Turturro, hilarious) into making his client shave, yielding to the will of the iron-lady studio boss (Catherine Keener, doing a perfect Sherry Lansing), trying to please everyone, pleasing almost no one, and knowing that all this effort is just running in place, paying alimony, child support and overhead while watching his status on Vanity Fair's "Hollywood power" ladder slip by the hour.

DeNiro is the best he's been in years as this master negotiator who somehow can't seem to get anyone to do things his way, an unflappable operator who handles revelations about his kids and a brazen come-on by a starlet in a men's room as business as usual, nothing to lose your cool over. Linson, producing the film, and director Levinson see to it that Ben is not the movie-mogul-as-monster we've seen in "Swimming with Sharks" and other Hollywood roman a clefs. He's just a guy who multi-tasks, charms, lies and stalks his latest ex-wife because he has to.

It's Hollywood, and everyone's into yoga, Ecstasy and starlets, yoked to their Blue Tooth like a deal-sealing ball-and-chain. Yes, it's an inside-baseball movie in the extreme. But if you're into baseball, you'll recognize the lineup and grin at "What Just Happened?"

Bruce Willis will be making his directorial debut on an indie film titled Three Stories About Joan. The psychological drama follows a young woman at three points in her life and the family tragedies that cause her to lose her grip on reality. Apparently the story involves her "faith in a love borne out of need, destroyed by a madness, and restored by a ghost." A ghost? Yes indeed. Willis has cast the lovely Camilla Belle as the lead in the film and will also star as her father. Shooting will start in early October in Shreveport, Louisiana under the production of Willis Brothers Films, which as you can assume, is the company run by Bruce and his two brother David. The budget is expected to between $10 and $25 million.

The screenplay for Three Stories About Joan was written by newcomers Christopher Alexander and Sam Applebaum. In addition to Belle and Willis, both Owen Wilson and Kieran Culkin will star in the film as well. It sounds like too much of a quirky story to actually turn out any good, but I don't know enough about all the details to really say. I'm more concerned about Willis' directing abilities than I am about the script. I'm sure this is going to be a big festival film next year, but I'm already worried that Willis won't be as good at directing as he is at acting. For some odd reason he doesn't feel like the kind of guy who knows how to work great behind-the-scenes, but then again, I haven't ever met him. I surely hope I'm wrong!

Bruce Willis has been a movie star for 20 years or so and in that time, he's never stepped behind the camera. That's about to change with Three Stories about Joan.

According to the Shreveport Times (via Cinema Blend), Willis will direct Three Stories and co-star with Owen Wilson and Kieran Culkin. It's a psychological thriller written by Sam Appelbaum and Chris Alexander, and it will be shot in Louisiana, where every fourth movie is being made these days, or so it seems.

Here's the official thumbnail sketch of the movie, from AFM:

"At age seventeen, Joan loses her virginity. At age 21, she loses her virtue. At age 25, she loses her vices. Or did she lose nothing .... but her mind?

Willis has been down the psych-thrilla road, before, and Wilson technically has, too, with the awful The Haunting remake, but not so much since he's been able to choose roles. The linchpin, in my mind, is Kieran Culkin. If he's on his game, a la Igby Goes Down, take cover. That guy can be tremendous.

The movie is scheduled for a five week production in Shreveport, home of the Centenary Fightin' Centenarians, beginning on October 2nd.

I'm not sure how it's taken so long for people to pick up on this story, because looking around now there's definitely some info that's been floating for a month or two. Our bad.

Why has this taken so long? You stick around in today's Hollywood long enough and you're bound to direct a vanity project or two. (And I guess if The Return of Bruno isn't a vanity project, nothing is.) I suspect that part of the reason Willis hasn't directed yet is -- and this is going to sound mean, but that's not the intent -- that he doesn't come off as the most...acute...guy on the planet. Other talents and skills, the guy's definitely got. But in interviews he's never displayed that particular sense of perception that makes a career director. Granted, he does display a singular ability to believe exactly what he wants to believe, which is a key component of a certain sort of filmmaker.

Regardless, the Shreveport Times reports that Willis is directing a flick in...you can probably guess this...Shreveport, LA. He's starring in the film, called Three Stories About Joan, with Owen Wilson and Kieran Culkin. The Louisiana Office of Entertainment Industry Development says the project will shoot in town from October 3 to November 10, perhaps a fairly whirlwind schedule if the film is primarily location-based, perhaps not if interiors are being built in a studio somewhere.

Nary an additional detail is to be had in the paper's article. No plot, no writer, no financiers, nuttin. They don't care about that shite.

But Three Stories About Joan was written by Sam Applebaum and Chris Alexander, and picked up by Willis's company only late this summer. The American Film Market's Film Catalogue provides a synopsis in addition to mentioning a $10-25m budget and produers Moshe Diamant, David Willis, Bruce Willis and Mark Damon working through Foresight Unlimited. Notably, no one mentions yet who might be playing Joan. (But YouTube has a couple amusing audition tapes.) Ze synopsis:

What Just Happened

Bruce Willis Goes Ballistic in 'What Just Happened?'
The new Barry Levinson film What Just Happened? sports an interesting cast and a workable premise, but festival audiences haven't exactly warmed to it.

Robert De Niro plays a film producer whose career is on the ropes, with John Turturro, Stanley Tucci, and Kristen Stewart filling out the cast. The movie covers two weeks in the producer's life as he tries to get a new film off the ground.

Bruce Willis shows up as himself in the film, and this clip shows just how much fun Willis can have at his own expense. The setup is that De Niro wants Bruce to shave his beard for the role. If you're at work, it's probably not a good idea to have the speakers up very loud.

The film, which is co-executive produced by Bruce Willis, Queen Latifah and Q-Tip, tells the story of Chris "Karma Kazi" Rolle, a former homeless teenager who inspires a group of New York City teens to transform their life stories into art, using hip-hop.

Rolle started the project in 1999 as a way to give youth a positive outlet for expression and to help teens develop skills for their futures.

After learning of the main character's story, hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons partnered with Willis in donating a recording studio to the project, enabling the youth in the film to complete a collaborative CD over the course of four years.

All of the film's proceeds are being donated to various organizations that focus on working to improve the quality of life for youth. Profits from the sale of the CD as well as T-shirts, posters and all other marketing material will also be placed into a special scholarship fund set up for students of the program.

SOHH recently caught up with Bruce Willis to ask him why he decided to associate himself with the project. "Hip-Hop is ingrained in the culture," he said. "It's not just in the city anymore, it's global. It's modern, it's hip and everybody has it in their head."

I will check it out if I can find it and report back. Hell it came out over a year ago and I cant find the DVD.

Here is a Sundance report on this one coming out in August. Again it seems like forever away. I really cant wait to see Bruce in another Comedy role. He really is very funny. HEre is what I found out on a Sundance Review:
Director Brett Simon’s feature debut is an intricately crafted high school drama that strays from the typical teenage fare and manages to keep what at first seems like a familiar plot twisting and turning until the very last frame. Combining a keen sense of relief that no one can make you go back to high school with an equally strong desire to return and make all of the cool kids realize that there’s life past graduation, Assassination of a High School President deftly captures a new kind of grown-up teenage angst.

Sophomore Bobby Funke, played with witty nuance by Reece Thompson, is a self-described newspaper dork whose social skills are severely lacking in this high school hierarchy, yet he is instantly recognizable as the person with the most promising future in his class. Determined to win a spot in a coveted summer journalism program, he finds himself at the epicenter of a story that threatens the entire social structure of St. Donovan’s High School--everyone from jocks to misfits to Bruce Willis’s campy and over-the-top principal. The rest of the perfectly cast ensemble creates a high school from hell, where anything seems possible, especially since every character appears to be 16 going on 30. Giving any hints about the way this film turns out would only destroy the fun.

Did you get yours? They released Planet Terror seperate from the Grindhouse double feature. They also released this in a Steelbook edition that contained 3 disks. Anyway, thats the latest Bruce Willis Movie to be released.

It was released that they will after all make an unrated two disk version of Live Free or Die Hard. This is the information they have on Cinema Blend News for the release of the DVD and Blue Ray. I havent made the Jump to Blue Ray, but from what you get vs. the deluxe edition, why bother?

I watched this and wondered what the Hell? I dunno if he meant to say that, but its funny. During his introduction mentioning the Rhythm Method. Especially if you look at his reaction after saying that. Did he realize what he said, or did he mean to say it and left the comedic pause. Either way I thought it was funny.

Die Hard 4.0 Live Free or Die Hard as John McClane

Excellent Movie. I was worried it wouldnt be able to live up to the original. They did an excellent job. I just hope the DVD has an unrated version.

Wow! What else can you say? I am old enough to remember Viet Nam. Not real clearly all the events and protests, many of the things that went on. but I do remember a lot of things. We send our troops off to keep our country safe, so the rest of us do not have to fight the enemy here. We send them to a place we could never imagine in our worst nightmares. The "lucky" ones came back and were spit on, called horrible names, shunned by people. I was very very saddened. Very well done and one I think is a must see. Bruce was amazing in this role. Very Believable.

I have not seen this yet and I want to. From all the reviews, and all of my friends reports on this Movie. It Kicks ASS! But its Bruce, we knew it would. As soon as I see it to post a review of this one for you. Too many things going on, haven't been able to get to it yet.
